Reflection Questions

Here are the "Questions for Prayerful Reflection found at the end of Chapter 1 of Power Surge.  I look forward to going over these questions tonight, but would invite feedback from you.

Questions

1. Would you describe your congregation as internally or externally focused?  How do you know?
2. Does the pastoral and other salaried staff in your congregation spend most of their time doing ministry or mentoring others in ministry?
3. Given the size of your congregation, has the pastoral and other salaried staff reaching the limits of ministry in terms of time, energy and ability?  Are things not getting done?  Is growth stymied?  Is anyone in danger of burnout?
4. Does the membership model of the church and ministry greatly describe, somewhat describe or not describe your congregation?
5. Does beginning the move from membership to discipleship make sense for your congregation?  Why or why not?
6. If your congregation were to decide to undertake a move to discipleship model, what barriers to change can you envision?
7. In the life of faith, all things begin and end in prayer.  Take a moment new to speak with God about what’s going through your mind, your heart, your spirit as you reflect on the present realities of your congregation.
